Limitations and alternatives
Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of Kona Grill, there may be some limitations. Below are descriptions of known limitations. Please contact us at [email protected] if you observe an issue not listed below.
Known limitations for Kona Grill:
1. WCAG 1.1 Non text content
a. Some alt text is missing or not appropriate for the image. This is an ongoing maintenance issue due to new images being added to the site often. We are doing our best to catch missing alt text and update images with the alt text best suited for the context.
2. WCAG 1.3 Adaptable
a. Some items that are related, such as the star icons on the ‘Review us’ page, need to be wrapped inside a field-set so screen readers can convey how they are meant to be used.
b. Some form controls are missing accessible labels, which makes it had to impossible for scree readers and other assistive technology to convey what elements are for.
c. Some text styled as a heading is not labeled as such. This makes it harder for some users that rely on assistive technology to navigate sections of websites.
3. WCAG 2.4 Navigable
a. On the ‘Menus’ page, the drop-down for choosing a menu is missing a visible label. Inside the drop-down, the initial value is ‘Choose a menu’ which should be above the selector, not inside of it. This could cause confusion for users with cognitive disabilities or memory loss issues, because the label or instruction for what the field is for does not remain visible and persistent.
4. WCAG 3.3 Input Assistance
a. Some forms do not provide instructions.
b. Some forms do not have audible user errors read out by the screen reader.
4. WCAG 4.1 Compatible
a. A link to OpenTable on the location pages has not been given an accessible name or alt text (the link is an image of the OpenTable logo). This means screen readers can’t convey what this link is for.
b. On the ‘Review us’ page, when a location is selected, the screen changes (stars appear) but the announcement does not convey this.
Action being taken
We work with an external team to address these issues. Accessibility is audited monthly, and barriers are reviewed and remediated by severity.
